There is a profound sadness that comes with hearing that more American service members have lost their lives. Behind every headline is a family whose world has changed forever—a seat that will remain empty at the dinner table and memories that will now be cherished in their absence.
As a constitutional conservative, I believe the decision to place American men and women in harm’s way must be approached with the utmost seriousness. War should never be entered lightly, nor should military actions be escalated through unilateral decisions without accountability to the American people and the constitutional processes designed to prevent unnecessary conflict.
I mourn the loss of these brave Americans. Their sacrifice deserves more than momentary attention; it deserves reflection on how and why we ask them to serve in dangerous places around the world.
I am not thinking about political victories or partisan disagreements. I am thinking about the families who received devastating news and the service members still standing watch far from home.
May we honor the fallen not only with our words, but with a renewed commitment to peace, constitutional governance, and the principle that American lives should never be spent without the most compelling of reasons.
