There is something I do not often bring attention to, and you will not hear me talk about it frequently. But occasionally it is important to acknowledge it so people understand where I am coming from.
Yes, I have Cerebral Palsy.
A Physical Challenge, Not a Mental One
Cerebral palsy affects my body, but it does not affect my mind. I am able to comprehend what is happening around me and understand the issues facing our country. At times my speech may not always come out as clearly as I would like, but that should never be mistaken for a lack of understanding.
History gives us examples that remind us of this distinction. Consider Stephen Hawking. Though he lived with severe physical limitations, his mind allowed him to understand complex truths about the universe that most people could hardly imagine.
Now, I am not claiming to possess the level of genius that Stephen Hawking had. But the example serves an important purpose: a physical disability does not define the limits of a person’s understanding or commitment.
I fully understand what is happening in our nation today.
The Challenge Facing Our Republic
The problems facing the United States will not be solved by one individual alone. Preserving a constitutional republic has always required many people working together with a shared commitment to liberty.
I believe strongly that cooperation—especially among those who still respect the Constitution—is essential. I am both willing and able to work with others who share that commitment.
Our nation faces threats abroad, but we must not ignore the dangers here at home as well.
The Threat Within
One of the most serious problems today is not tied to a single political party. The truth is simpler and more troubling:
• There are individuals in Washington, D.C. who are not concerned with defending liberty.
• Some seek power and control above all else.
• The Constitution is sometimes treated as an obstacle rather than a guiding document.
When leaders begin ignoring the Constitution in pursuit of authority, the foundation of our republic is placed at risk.
Liberty cannot survive if those entrusted with governing abandon the principles they swore to uphold.
Looking Past the Exterior
Because of my condition, people may sometimes see the physical challenges before they see the person. That is understandable—first impressions are powerful.
But I ask people to look deeper than appearances.
Look at a person’s character, their principles, and their commitment to defending freedom.
My commitment is simple and unwavering:
• I believe in defending liberty.
• I believe in protecting the Constitution.
• I believe that freedom belongs to all Americans, not just those in power.
And I am willing to stand for those principles no matter the cost.
A Shared Responsibility
Preserving our constitutional republic will require courage, honesty, and cooperation among those who still value freedom. No single voice can carry that burden alone.
But together—if we remain committed to liberty—we can ensure that the principles that built this nation continue to guide it.
So I ask only this: look past the exterior of a person and judge them by their commitment to the ideals that matter most.
